Who Is Therese Gyauch, M.A. ? |
|---|
|
Date: 12/19/1999 |
Therese M. Gyauch, M.A., serves as the Certified Holistic Health Educator at the Woodlands Healing Research Center. Therese brings a wealth of educational and interpersonal experience. She has held a lifelong interest in health and wellness, and her interest emphasizes the importance of self-responsibility, continual learning, and thoughtful action as core elements of living a healthy, well-rounded life.
Therese comes from an academic background that stresses teaching skills and the development of appropriate learning curriculum. In 1990, she received her B.A. from Davidson College, NC, through its Center for Special Studies, combining English and Psychology to create her own major, Interdisciplinary Communications. While she had considered both biology and pre-med majors, even then, Therese recognized the importance of having someone to explain, describe, and encourage healthy behaviors to the lay person. Throughout a series of teaching employments with students from middle school to adult age and the receipt of an M.A. from Lehigh University in English, Therese actively continued to develop her teaching and program development skills and to sustain her interest in wellness activities and behaviors.
When an opportunity occurred in 1995 to join the staff of the state-funded Department of Health's Family Caregiver Cancer Education Program initiative based at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Therese energetically rose to the challenge. Until the conclusion of the state contract in 1998, she served as the Program Coordinator for Community & Latino Outreach. In this position, Therese acted as a liaison with other community agencies, coordinated the activities of 2-4 bilingual outreach workers, arranged the FCCEP's participation in numerous community health fairs, set up 7 appearances of staff on public TV and radio, and contributed to the development and teaching of wellness subjects at FCCEP-sponsored conferences. Among her proudest accomplishments during this employment was publishing an article in the Journal of Oncology Management.
In 1996/1997, Therese received pivotal health training. She undertook the Mind-Body Skills Program for Professionals offered by the Center for Mind-Body Medicine run by James Gordon, M.D. and his colleagues. It was also in 1997 that Therese began her working association with the Woodlands Healing Research Center teaching the 8-week Mind-Body Skills Program. In 1999, she added to the health curriculum at the clinic by creating and delivering a Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Skills Program. In February 2000, she will complete her PA Certification as a Holistic Health Educator from the Mount Nittany School of Natural Health, State College, PA.
Therese offers individual consultation services, mind-body skills programs,
CFS/FM skills programs, and lectures on and experiential experiences related to select health topics. On behalf
of the entire staff, we welcome you to the Woodlands Healing Research Center.
