Who Is Dr. Schmidt? |
|
Date: 02/01/2004 |
Although he had the choice of almost any medical school, Robert Henry Schmidt, DO, chose the most famous of the Osteopathic Medical Schools, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He made the conscious decision to focus on Osteopathic Medicine for his post graduate medical training due to the preventive, holistic and family-oriented principles inherent in this discipline of scientific medicine. In order to be as experienced as possible, Dr. Schmidt chose to do his residency approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians (A.A.F.P.) from 1985 to1988. Being a member of both the A.A.F.P. and the Pennsylvania Academy of American Family Physicians, as well as the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, he maintains his connections and knowledge within both legitimate persuasions of medicine.
After graduating from high school in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Dr. Schmidt joined the United States Navy and worked for four years along side of surgeons and other doctors in hospitals and aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Saratoga, CV-60. In 1977 he began attending The Pennsylvania State University where he designed his own undergraduate program in Liberal and Philosophical Arts, as well as the higher level sciences in order to satisfy his very strong desire to be well-founded in the knowledge of human nature.
While in the Navy, Dr. Schmidt was named Company Honor Man and was the Aircraft Carrier’s head hospital corpsman in charge of the in-patient medical ward and Intensive Care Unit. One of his longer assignments was as an assistant to the Chief of the Preventive Medicine Unit while on board the USS Saratoga, CV-60. Dr. Schmidt has extensive experience with duty as a Hospital Corpsman working in cooperation with medical authorities in many countries in the Mediterranean and the Near East. His assignment then was to be a medical authority and a member of a good-will contingent for the United States in these far-off lands.
Dr Schmidt has been a member of the American College for the Advancement in Medicine and has long experience in preventive and therapeutic intravenous medical therapies. His other medical experiences include working in Skilled Nursing Facilities, Home Care, Emergency Room, Intensive and Cardiac Care Units and Medical-Surgical hospital level care. He has served on the Infectious/Environmental Disease Committee, the Quality Improvement Committee, Documentation of Care Committee and the governing, decision-making body of the Medical Executive Committee, where valuable insight and experience were gained in being able to give the best care possible to his patients at all levels.
Dr. Schmidt has definitely been known as one of the favorite physicians among staff at his hospitals since he has always been an unfailing patient and staff advocate in all areas of his medical practice.
True to Woodland's philosophy, Dr. Schmidt strives to keep the bridge guarded and solid between the two disciplines of Modern Scientific Medicine and Modern Scientific Complementary and Alternative Medicine. A thorough understanding and successful experience of both is crucial to delivering optimal medical choices in delivery of care to each individual patient and family.
Dr. Schmidt resides in the Quakertown area. Joining the Woodlands' team is a dream come true for Dr. Schmidt. It is such a philosophy and practice of medicine that he has always envisioned since he first chose to go into the medical field at the young age of 17.
